Since then, Geoff has been attending SOBS - Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide - who are based in Ilkeston. Three-year-old Leo Handford suffers from a rare disorder known as mitochondrial disease. Now his parents Kenny Handford (pictured with Leo) and Kelly Handford are having to commit all of their time looking after him and his seven month old sister Libby Handford. Leo's stomach is affected by the disease and he has to be fed through a tube directly in to his stomach.<br />

Jane joined a group of others to sketch and paint flora and fauna from the natural world, including preserved butterflies and beetles. The art course has been inspired by a Derby Museum exhibition entitled Cressbrook Dale, created by artist David Measures.<br />

The three day event came to a close after a performance from American rockers Linkin Park, and thankfully for the crowd, the rain stopped within an hour of the perfomance. Many people came prepared for the mud and cold rain, with a colourful collection of wellington boots and overcoats.<br />

Children who joined in were given the opportunity to practice their tracking and compass skills, as well as learn how to build a campfire.   • A Derby man who suffered a stroke 12 years ago has told of how he got himself back on his feet. George Nelson, from Gurney Avenue in Sunny Hill,  had to teach himself how to walk and write again after the stroke, but has since made a remarkable recovery.<br />
He said: 'You could leave a car parked in a garage for months on end and polish it three times a day. But when you try and start the engine it's not going to move, and that car is meant to move. And so am I.'<br />

  • This female tarantula raised a few eyebrows at PDSA's fund-raising open day, as veterinary nurse Stefan Matan showed a selection of exotic animals to members of the public. Animal lovers were invited to a purr-fect day out at the fund-raising open day, where they got the chance to enjoy dog shows, a range of stalls and several activities for children. The event was held at the PDSA PetAid Hospital (correct) at City Gate just off London Road. Money raised at the event went towards PDSA, which is a leading veterinary charity.

A Libyan national currently studying in Derby has told of his hopes for the future after recent events in his home country. Jamal Hussein (correct), who lives on Sale Street in Normanton, is delighted now that Libyan dictator Colonel Gadaffi has been forced to flee his compound in Tripoli. Jamal, whose family still live in Libya, uses the internet to communicate with his loved ones every day. He is pictured here at home.<br />

An undiscovered passion for photography has helped a Ripley man battle depression. When Ian Jenkins suffered a work-related accident resulting in back surgery, work soon dried up and Ian was in so much agony that going back in to education proved difficult. But thanks to a series of digital photography workshops, Ian soon found a new hobby and will be opening his first exhibition this Wednesday at The Croft centre on Slack Lane in Ripley. Ian says that his new skill has helped him battle depression he has struggled with since his accident.<br />
